This will not be a long post but it is an important post and I want it to stand alone without the detrius of everyday life surrounding it. I may make another post tonight for the usual things I write about. The world at this present time is in a perilous state, apart from the damage we are doing to the planet with our greed, we have situations in the Middle East that could escalate and eventually become wars that everyone will be dragged into. The price of gold is starting to move upwards, that is usually a sign of imminent war. Why is there no ceasefire? Why is Iraq about to tumble into civil war? Why are countries invading other countries? Why are we still fighting in Afghanistan, on terrain where westerners never win? We seem to be sending troops to all these hotspots, in England I am sure our army is spread very thin. What is the next step for Mr. Blair and his cohorts around the world, call up for all young men? Do you really want your sons fighting in wars that we seem to be helping to create? How many children have to die before our leaders see any sense?

Please let us make the 21st century one in which we live and let live? How would you feel if troops entered your home town and told you what you could and could not do? Would you stand back and let them or would you stand and fight them? There are two sides to an invasion. There are two sides to every story. Let us have a ceasefire in these conflicts, let us try to talk like the civilized beings we are supposed to be. Please do not let the current situation gather strength and grow until there is not going back and the ultimate deterrent is launched. Please people of the blogging world, let us spare a little time from our usual blogging fun and stand up and make a statement on our blogs or a comment on someone's blog to say We do not want war.

yay for Daisy !! I agree totally. Doesn't matter which side of the political fence you sit on - what is happening is wrong. full stop end of story.
There is absolutely no way that I would 'allow' my son or my grandsons go to war over this. Our prime minister would have to come drag them himself. I just don't get it at all.
then like you say, there is the side of what we are doing to our planet.
I actually posted on this again this morning. xoxo

Great heartfelt post, Ms. Daisy. There has to be a lot of people who feel like we do. I don't personally know ANYONE who wants war, power, and killing children. I intend to say more on this subject, and I have written my governor, the brother of our President, again, and this time asked him to check out some blogs to see for himself that his brother is NOT loved, and his leadership is NOT appreciated, and I gave him my address too. Maybe at a family gathering he will whisper something in his brother's ear and our Mr. Bush may begin to think what he has done to our country. I'm an artist, and I don't ever get involved in politics, but this killing of children is getting to me. Thank goodness an election year is coming up; perhaps things can change. Thank you for taking a brave stand.

Wonderful, wonderful piece (peace) Daisy and the best idea. Our new Prime Minister here in Canada, is a "Bush man" and I hope when election time comes he`s voted out. Too too many are dying, and for what? I have a 21 year old son and I can`t even imagine the horror of knowing he was off fighting for one of these lost causes. I can`t imagine the horror of having soldiers come into my own country and fight amongst us all with other soldiers. The trails of destruction that are left behind for the people only trying to live their lives, to deal with. The unnessesary murder of friends and loved ones..............
I intend to continue even in my own small way to keep stating that this is all so wrong.

Thank you, Daisy. Often it's just too much to bear and we feel so helpless that we turn away and hope someone else with sort it out.

I don't know the answers, but events of the past few years have certainly not found any answers either.

I totally agree, Daisy. Our "leader" has his head up his you-know-what and can't or won't see what he is doing to the world. I don't understand why people can't just let other people have their own thoughts and ideas and leave each other alone. We don't all have to think the same way. How boring! We should be able to recognize and accept our differences and not have to die for them. You are so right that there are always two sides to any story and one side can't always be right.

Thank you for this Daisy, I've posted my own little statement on my blog, inspired by you - sometimes one has to just stand up and say this.

Wonderful heartfelt post Daisy...I agree with you and I always wonder WHY we keep sending our troops to these countries that will never change because all they've ever known is fighting for centuries!! I hate that it's the innocent that gets hurt or killed...just two weeks ago, another one of our Canadian soldiers was brought home in a casket...how many more before it ends????

I did not think anyone could make such a sweeping ill thoughtout statement mom called me sadie said - 'Terrorism kills more innocents than defending freedom from it does' - rubbish hundreds of innocents are killed in war bombings.

Maybe she means government terrorism ;)

"defending freedom" -- um, whose freedom?

But you're right; you have to get informed, think things out, etc. before you make statements.

Oh Daisy,,,I have felt this way for so long now. Its in my mind constantly. A dear friend e-mailed me from Israel when the fighting started there. She lives in the northern part where all the bombing has taken place. So far they had not had any damage,,but she was terrified because she could hear the bombs and shelling. She stated that she didn't understand why this had to happen as there were inocent people in both countries getting killed. She wasn't just thinking of her country. I haven't heard from her since,,so I don't know whats going on with her. So I pray,,and pray constantly for her and all of us,,that one day there could just be PEACE!!!

Just my little opinion from the US ...
But I think we need Trees NOT Bushes.

Wonderful post Daisy! Another opinion from the US...we need a WOMAN for a freakin President! Just a thought...this killing is just madness! And how have we evolved? Not very much if we still have to shed innocent blood...we just use more sophisticated means instead of rocks and sticks and arrows and axes. I have 2 nephews in the military. One of them is a Marine and just came home from Iraq. He is just 22. I saw how his mother worried for him. Like all mothers have when sons and daughters go to war. Insanity! Praying in the heartland for PEACE>

Just another note...does anyone remember the old anti-war saying in the 70's "War is not healthy for children and other living things." Wish I still had that poster from 1971...I'd make a huge banner and fly it on my house!

Dear Daisy,
Thank you for stopping by Merryville and for taking the time to leave your comment. As you've read I too am wishing for peace. Too many people, military, civilian, young, old, and of many different beliefs have sacrificed over time throughout the world and still here we are, refusing to respect one another's opinions, our different faiths and our common humanity. I know I do not have all the answers, but I believe that no real change will happen without people talking to one another. We then need to respect the feelings from which opinions are formed. So often we think with our feelings. Fear is hard to overcome. Terrorism thrives on that fear. I remember when our World Trade Centers were bombed with jetliners that my first reaction... and it came from way deep inside of me..was hatred for those who had done such a thing. I wanted the anilhation of all persons responsible for such an act. It was the first time in my life that I truly understood how people come to war. But as we have seen over the centuries war does not bring a permanent peace. So the world must agree to change the way we resolve our differences. With dialog, with respectful listening to one another and a wish for the best, not only for ourselves but for each other.

I totally agree! War is not the answer.

Thank you for adding your voice to all those protesting war and violence around the world, as innocents die. Thanks for your lovely comments on my blog, but most of all, thank you for speaking for those who cannot.

Daisy,
I agree with you whole heartedly. Although an optomist most of the time, I'm quite cynical about war.
In recorded history has there ever been a time when there wasn't war. Were any wars really justified.
No more fighting; 'tis a consumation devotely to be wished.
